Welcome! Whether you’re new to the sport or just new to Bloomington, we’re happy you’re interested in Bloomington Ultimate. This community primarily operates through seasonal organized leagues, which you can learn about on the Leagues page. Learn about other ways to get involved:
- Pickup
- Club teams
- College teams
- Clinics
Pickup
When the weather’s nice, there’s usually pickup on Sundays from 2:00 – 4:00 pm at Olcott Park. When the weather’s especially nice, people might organize an impromptu game at Bryan Park via GroupMe. Contact us if you’d like to be added to this chat.
Anyone is welcome to join for pickup, regardless of skill or experience. We tend to play somewhat structured games, so if you don’t know anything about ultimate, check out the Rules & Resources page to get started. You can also ask anyone for help when you show up to pickup!
Club Teams
The only club team in Bloomington right now is Los Heros, a mixed team that practices during the summer club season and occasionally plays tournaments based on interest. The best way to learn about Los Heros is to get involved in Bloomington Ultimate through pickup or other leagues!
There are more club teams within driving distance from Bloomington. Indianapolis is about an hour away and is home to mixed, open (men’s), and women’s club teams.
- Indy Spectre (mixed)
- I-69 (open)
- Indy Rogue (women’s) – find them on Facebook.
College Teams
Indiana University’s Bloomington campus has a vibrant college ultimate scene with three teams: the Hoosier Mama’s, Hoosier Daddy’s, and Calamity Janes. IU Bloomington students, faculty, and staff can also sign up for an intramural ultimate league.
IU Bloomington Men’s teams – the Hoosier Mama’s are the competitive A team, and the Hoosier Daddy’s are the developmental B team for players who want to play in the College Men’s division.
IU Bloomington Women’s team – the Calamity Janes are the team for players of all experience levels who want to play in the College Women’s division.
Clinics
Usually once or twice a year, we hold skill- and community-building clinics for women and nonbinary folks in our community. These groups represent minorities in our mixed ultimate community, so these clinics are a chance for them to meet up, play together, and introduce more people to the sport in a supportive environment. Check out the clinics tab or our social media to see if there are any upcoming clinics. If you’d like a specific clinic to happen, come to pickup or league and help us organize one!
